PARKING:
Meters are in effect from the Friday immediately preceding Memorial Day until and including the second Sunday following Labor Day between the hours of 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 midnight.

Please do not park in driveways, across sidewalks, at yellow curbs in any yellow areas. Do not allow your vehicle to cross any part of a yellow line. These regulations are enforced and violators will have their vehicles towed and impounded.

Oversized vehicles must use certain designated parking areas. Handicap parking spaces are provided.  If a person with a handicapped license or permit wishes to park their vehicle in a metered space, they must pay the parking meter. PARKING PERMITS:
In the non-metered areas a parking permit is required daily from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. the Friday before Memorial Day through Labor Day. The permit fees are: Seasonal Non-transferable - $75.00 (effective August 1, 2001) - $35.00; Seasonal Transferable - $100.00 (effective August 1, 2001) - $50.00; Weekly - $30.00 (eight consecutive days); Three-day Weekend - $20.00 (Fri., Sat., Sun. or Sat., Sun., Mon.); Weekend Daily (Sat., Sun.) - $10.00; Weekday Daily (Mon., Tues., Wed., Thurs., Fri.) - $5.00.

Permits are available for sale at City Hall, 229 Rehoboth Avenue; the Parking Meter Division, 30 1/2 Lake Avenue (behind City Hall); at several local real estate offices and downtown merchants.


UNATTENDED MOTOR VEHICLES:
No person shall park, store, leave or permit the parking, storing or leaving of any motor vehicle of any kind along the street in front of private property not belonging to the owner of such motor vehicle for a period greater than forty-eight (48) hours after notice to move such vehicle has been placed by the city on such motor vehicle. Upon complaint of the owner or occupant of the property in front of which such motor vehicle has been parked for at least twenty-four (24) hours, the city shall place a notice to move said motor vehicle within forty-eight (48) hours on such motor vehicle. Any motor vehicle not so moved within forty-eight (48) hours after the notice is posted on it will be in violation of this section.


SKATEBOARDS AND BICYCLES:
Skateboards are prohibited on the boardwalk and bandstand year 'round and on the sidewalks and streets at all hours from May 15 through September 15.

A person under 16 years of age shall not operate, ride upon or ride as a passenger any bicycle, unless that person is wearing a properly fitted and fastened bicycle helmet which meets or exceeds the standard of the American National Standards Institute or the Snell Memorial Foundation's 1984 Standard for Protective Headgear for Use in Bicycling. This requirement shall apply to a person who rides upon a bicycle while in a restraining seat which is attached to the bicycle or in a trailer towed by the bicycle.

No person who is 12 years of age or over shall ride or operate any bicycle on any sidewalk adjoining any street within the corporate limits of the City of Rehoboth Beach.

No person shall ride or operate any bicycle on the main Boardwalk between the hours of 10:00 a.m., prevailing time, and 5:00 a.m., prevailing time, on the following day, from May 15 to September 15, both dates inclusive, of any year.

No person shall operate any bicycle after sunset and before sunrise without a headlight, which shall at all times be lit, and a rear reflector. This headlight shall be properly attached to the front of the bicycle, visible under normal atmospheric conditions from the front thereof for a distance of not less than 500 feet. The bicycle shall also have a red light or reflector attached to the rear of the bicycle, which light or reflector is clearly visible in the headlight beam of a motor vehicle for a distance of not less than 300 feet to the rear of the bicycle.

When two or more persons in a group are operating bicycles in a roadway, they shall ride in single file.

All bicycles, when operated on roadways, streets, thoroughfares or other public ways within the corporate limits of the City of Rehoboth Beach, shall be kept to the right and shall be operated as near as practicable to the right-hand edge of the public way.

Each bicycle shall be equipped with a signaling device in good working order and audible at a distance of 50 feet when sounded.

Every person operating a bicycle shall observe strictly all traffic signs and signals and all other traffic rules and regulations applicable thereto and shall obey the orders and directions of every officer of the City of Rehoboth Beach authorized to regulate traffic.

No bicycle shall be attached to a parking meter, post, tree or bench located on any sidewalk, boardwalk, street or public place within the corporate limits of the City.


ROLLER BLADERS AND ROLLER SKATERS:
No person shall ride roller blades or roller-skates on the bandstand, boardwalk or Rehoboth Avenue from May 15 until September 15.


PEDESTRIANS:
Please do not walk in the streets or roadway. For your safety, avoid jaywalking and use the crosswalks at the intersections following the directions of the crossing control devices.


BEACH AND OCEAN:
Please observe all posted beach regulations and cooperate with the lifeguards in all situations. The guards are on duty to ensure your safety on the beach as well as in the water.

No floatation devices are allowed to be used on weekends and holidays. Surfboards are only allowed on a certain designated beach and there is also a designated beach, known as fisherman's beach, for surf fishing. The lifeguards will be happy to furnish further information on flotation devices, surfboards, or fishing.

City ordinances prohibit the consumption or possession of alcoholic beverages on the beach, or boardwalk, or public areas at all times. Persons are prohibited from and shall not be on the beach between the hours of 1:00am and 5:00am during the period of May 1 and September 30. No glass bottles or containers are allowed on the beach. Please deposit all trash in the receptacles provided on the beach and the boardwalk. Littering is subject to fine.

All games involving running and/or throwing are prohibited to prevent accidental injuries to bystanders. Contact our summer recreation department at (302) 227-6181 for more information concerning special recreational events.


BANDSTAND:
For many years, the City of Rehoboth Beach has sponsored musical events from concert to jazz as well as dance troupes and gospel music in performance on the Bandstand at Rehoboth Avenue and the Boardwalk. The concerts are free and we invite you and your family to join the festivities on weekend evenings.


DOGS:
It is illegal for dogs to run at large at any time. The City has a leash law and "pooper scooper" law which are enforced. Dogs are prohibited from the beach and the boardwalk from April 1 through October 31.


NOISE:
The City Code contains ordinances governing maximum noise levels. We ask that you refrain from causing excessive noise by way of radio, tape player, TV, parties, etc.
